ABOUT SANDIA HOMESCHOOL CHOIR

The Sandia Homeschool Choir was first started in 2016 with the goal of helping homeschool students from across New Mexico experience the unique beauty and challenge of choral singing!

From just a few voices to over 60 students, SHC has grown over the years in numbers as well as performance opportunities. The KRQE News 13 Christmas morning show, Rio Rancho Mayor's Charity Gala, and National Anthem at the Isotopes are a few of the exciting performing opportunities students have had while at SHC. Additionally, each semester of choir culminates in a big concert, giving students the full concert experience!

SHC HAS THREE LEVELS:

For Ages 6 to 12

Our Pajarito Singers focuses on fundamentals of early and safe vocal production, beginner harmony, and an introduction to music theory.

All songs are taught by rote for Pajarito Singers.

No prior experience is required to join Pajarito Singers.

Pajarito Singers

Sandia Singers

For Ages 12 to 18

Sandia Singers also focuses on fundamentals of healthy singing, while building to full two and three part harmony.

Sheet music is given out at this level, but students are not required to read music to join. No prior experience is required to join Sandia Singers.

Chamber Singers

For Ages 13 to 18

Our only "audition" group, Chamber Singers students must be at least 13 to be considered and must also be part of the Sandia Singers. Students are expected to learn parts on their own. Harmony is at four to six parts. Some prior music experience is required for Chamber Singers.

"I attended the December 9th Christmas concert of the Sandia Youth Choir and greatly enjoyed the variety of songs sung, including a spiritual, a German Lied, and some traditional Christmas songs. The director was enthusiastic, energetic and professional, drawing from the young people a beautiful choral sound. The use of a clarinet, a violin and a bass in various songs was very nice as well."
